A man suspected of arson and hitting a Suffolk police officer with his truck was arrested in New Jersey Thursday.
Police say Manuel DeLeon Cuellar attacked his girlfriend after a dispute inside her Brentwood apartment, then set it on fire early Christmas morning. While fleeing the scene, police say Cuellar struck a responding officer with his pickup truck.
Cuellar was arrested by Suffolk County detectives and U.S. marshals in Plainview, NJ after two weeks on the run.
News 12 visited the family that owns the fire-damaged home and alerted them about the arrest. They said they were relieved that Cuellar had been caught. Since the fire, the family has been living in a trailer beside their home.
The family says they haven't heard from their tenant, Cuellar's girlfriend.
Cuellar was charged with second-degree arson. He will face additional charges once he returns to New York.
