Man accused of stealing donation money from multiple Nassau County churches

A man accused of stealing donation money from several Catholic churches in Nassau County is facing numerous charges.

Investigators say 60-year-old William Hepworth damaged a donation box and took money from Maria Regina Roman Catholic Church on Dec. 12 in Seaford.

He went on to steal money from Holy Name of Mary Roman Catholic Church on Dec. 22 in Valley Stream.

Police say he also targeted St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church on Jan. 12 in Bellmore.

The final offense took place at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church on Feb. 10 in Carle Place.

Hepworth was apprehended on Friday, according to Nassau police.

The charges against him include multiple counts of grand larceny, criminal mischief, possession of burglar tools, tampering with physical evidence, petit larceny and attempted petit larceny.
