A homeless man was arraigned Monday for allegedly attacking a 6-year-old girl on a Nassau Inter-County Express bus while the girl was traveling with her mother on Christmas Day.
Police say the incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont.
They say Michael Oxios, 62, allegedly struck the young girl and proceeded to scream profanities at her before hitting her again and pulling her hair.
The girl's mother called police, who tried to arrest Oxios. He resisted, according to officers, and at one point tried to remove a Taser from one of the officers.
Officials say the suspect lived in a shelter and has a long history of arrests, including a conviction for public lewdness.
Oxios faced charges of attempted robbery, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child. He was ordered held on $50,000 bail.
