This morning. Our main street Long Island series continues. We do it every Monday morning. We're heading out to highlight some of the great local businesses. And today we're in Saint James News. Twelve's Jen Selig is on Lake Avenue right now at Beans Bagels. We hear it's pretty good there, Jen. It sure is there. And you could see all the different kinds of breakfast goods that they have here. It's a great start to the morning and I know this is a popular spot in ST James to grab a bite to eat for breakfast. And with me, I have Michael. He was so nice enough to bring his D out here. Show us how he does his rolling skills rolling. A perfect tib. You said all the kids love this one. This is a really popular bagel here. Very popular. My daughter loves this. Everybody loves this. The whole community loves this. Uh We got 7 to 8 different colors in this dough and I'll show you how it's done. Perfect. And you have been here. The business has been here for how long we've been here for 2.5 years. Uh But we also worked on it for about a year also because it was, you know, not in the best shape, but we tried to bring it back to life the best week. I know you said you're from Massapequa. The wife is from this area. So you decided to open up the business here. How, how has Saint James been treating you? Oh, it's been very welcoming. Um Our daughter is going to be going to the preschool around the block next year. So we have a lot of friends, a lot of people in the community who look forward to it and it's gonna be a bless. You know, what do you think? The best part about having a bagel store right here on the popular road? Uh It's the connections, the connections that we make, the people, the smile that they make every day when they come in here. It's not just about the breakfast. It's, it's about the relationship with the people and the community and then off camera, I was trying to roll a bagel myself. It's honestly embarrassing. I don't even want to do it on live TV. OK. I'll cut a little bit. Let's get you going right now and I'm left handed. So this is a little different from how you were showing me because you're right handed. That's all subjective. OK. OK. How long did this take you to like nail it down? Uh Well, I'm still working on it, but I would say about 2.5 years. And you, you also have different other different kinds of bagels too. We do. My favorite is the French toast. It's got maple syrup, cinnamon sugar and uh, that's on an egg, egg based dough and a Dorito bagel. Dorito bagel too. You can forget about that. That's cooler ranch with um, a nice hint of ranch seasoning as well in there too. So it's not just Doritos, there's other mixes in there. Perfect. So I'm gonna try to help you out here and we'll send things back to the ST Jen. I want you to be, you gotta be able to do this next half hour when we come to you. I know you can do this. You absolutely can do it. So, Aaron, it's embarrassing. No, it's not. You're great at everything. We're gonna get you going and we'll come back and check in on you. Ok? I have faith in you. It is Monday, which means we're heading off to show off some of your favorite local businesses this morning. Our main street Long Island series continues and it continues in Saint James. News travels, Jen Selig is on Lake Avenue, getting a look at some unique pet items at Pure K nine morning, Jan. Hey, good morning. If you have a dog, this is definitely the place you want to check out all natural food treats different dog foods from different businesses and Butch himself, you own the shop. You've been here since October, so you're very new to the community. Although you are a local here. What's the best part about it? The best part is we are human grade, everything in the store we can eat, they're all human ingredients. That's something we could cook and we would make our meals and treats. With what inspired you to get into this kind of business. You said you were in law enforcement, you were a firefighter and then you switched gears to open up this, I have two dogs myself and we wanted to give them nutrition that won't harm them, that will help them and give them a better life. You have regular customers. Uh, we do surprisingly, in our short time, 10 months here, we do have a bunch of regulars. What's the best part when you see, you know, a dog come in, it's probably like a kid in a candy store for the dog. It certainly is because, uh, all everything here, you can sample everything. You could take out a biscuit, you could take out jerky. We'll even open up some food for everybody to try to make sure they like it before they leave the store. And another sweet part about it is you could walk home from here. You're what, a mile, mile and a half. Yes, I live just about a mile away. Just a little east of here in ST James. What's the best part about the whole community within itself? We love the residents here. They've been very, very supportive. We like to collaborate with some of the other local business here, uh, here with some of the events that we do. We kind of bring in their products. We've been invited to their shops. So it's very nice. It's good. It's a very good community here. I know you carry different dog treats from different businesses, but you make treats yourself too. Right? Uh, off premise. We do. They're just brought in so we can't make anything here, but you sell it here so people can get your goods here. Absolutely. Absolutely awesome. So maybe we can try a treat together. Absolutely. Yeah, let's do. Peanut butter. Pumpkin is one of my favorites. So we'll break a little bread here. It feels so weird eating this right. Cheers back to you, Aaron Jen. I love it. Our Jen Selig is there on Lake Avenue right now at Saint James pasta and Pork Morning, Jen. What's this place like? Hey, this place is a staple actually, here in town, it's a family owned business. We have Clara Phyllis and your granddaughter g and it's just a few of you here right now. You guys are a big family. How long have you been here for this? November will be 35 years and you're serving pork pasta sorell, a little bit of everything. And I know these are the fan favorites over here. Absolutely. All day, every day, all day. What is the best part about keeping the family business right here in the place you guys grew up in? Right. Absolutely. We didn't grow up here, but we've been here for a very long time, Jen. Um, so we are a family owned and run, uh, local business. We live in one of the best communities on the north shore. Um, the people that patronize us so wonderful. I mean, just everything. The chamber is so wonderful to us. It, it's just amazing being here this long and keeping it going. It was my parents dream to keep the business going. So that's what we're doing and they have fan favorites here. Customers just came in saying the best place in Suffolk County. I'm sure you get that all the time, all the time. Everyone here is great. Really? We, we, we, you don't, you come to work, you come to work to be friendly and we're happy and it's just like a really nice atmosphere. It's great. People ask us um all the time. Oh my God. Like how do you guys work together, like every day with a family? Any problems? And really it's not, it's, it's great. It's just great being all together seeing the same wonderful people. We have a like the town patronizes us constantly. They're wonderful. We have people that come from Nassau County all the way out east. Every place. It's just great and everything's made here. So I want to give you guys a sneak peek at another fan favorite. That's here. It's Peter is back here and he's making mozzarella. Sorry. It's a little tight here. And what do we got going on here, Peter? Stretching the mozzarella. This is my third water already. First, water's hot out of the tap. Second water's a little hotter. Third, water's almost to a boil. This is the third water. As you can see the texture is changing. It's getting really nice, good looking mozzarella. Right. I gotta bring it up really high. I'm stretching it. Changing the texture of the mozzarella. What a process. Hopefully that uh I'm gonna order a sandwich and we could put some of that in my sandwich. Right. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Without that, you gotta, you know, wait, let it set up a little bit. But now see I'm stretching it a little bit more. It's almost done. It starts out, you know, as a Kurd, I have my harp here. I push the, the pieces of Kurd through the harp, my harp, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. It's a whole process. We're gonna stick around for it, but that's all the time we have on air. So I'm gonna send it back to you in the studio, Aaron. I like that. Bam, bam, bam, ba da dam bam bam. That's how, that's, that's the secret ingredients in that. Love it, Jen. Thanks so much.

But right now it is Monday. So we are focusing on one of Long Island's many great main streets news. Twelve's Gen Z leg is in Saint James for us this afternoon. Well, this may look like a photography which it is, but this business offers so much more. This is cat and mouse photography with me, the owner, Katrina here and behind me, you got candles, soap, a little bit of everything. I'm Katrina. We're here in ST James. I'm the owner of cat photo and the all natural soap shop. We've been here for about 3.5 years. I started making soap almost years ago. Um for my own self, just allergic to everything in my twenties and just had to figure out something for a solution and it's more of a necessity. And then when we got here, we needed something fun and cute for the town and we figured why not sell the soap too? You're really blending two passions together because you do photography as well. Yes. Photography. Since high school college, I love it. And I know Saint James has so much to offer. So we're gonna check out some other businesses too. Now, we're inside Patuti. It's a cultural center and it's the cutest cultural center I've ever been in. And with me, I have the Ona Katrina. You opened this store business back in December. So you're fairly new to the community. Yes, we're brand new. Very happy to be here as a native Smithtown resident. Um, growing up in Saint James, I am loving the community here. Everyone is so supportive. We offer Italian classes for all ages from infants to adults. In addition to that, we do special events, birthday parties for Children. We have a beautiful outdoor area with a botch bowl court and we're just enjoying every moment of it and we're so grateful for the support and fortuity means what it means for everyone, all ages, all backgrounds, everyone is welcome to visit us, take a class, celebrate.
