When the world shut down during the pandemic, one Massapequa Park couple turned to woodworking as a creative outlet. John and Barbara Wilson started their own business, Wilson Woodworks Long Island.

They make custom engraved wood with any name, phrase, or logo on signs, plaques, and charcuterie boards from their garage. They capture life's sweetest moments and memories on wood.

"It's always been my hobby. I have always been making things — used to make furniture," said John Wilson. "And I always have been into graphic art," Barbara Wilson added.

They blended their creativity together in 2020. "I hate to say the pandemic blessed us. We needed to express ourselves and survive," said Barbara. It started with a small wooden sign with hooks to hang your masks. Now, they can create and customize just about everything! "We have done wedding invitations on wood — various things on glass -- we do acrylic, and to have people have that memory that can last — that is just really satisfying," said Barbara. "The pandemic made us creative, and because of it, we have a great business that we love," Barbara added.

The couple sells their products at local craft and street fairs. They ship, too.
