Kelly Madole makes soy wax candles and wax melts. She started South Shore Scents Co. two years ago.

The magic of candle-making happens inside her Sayville apartment. "I use all-natural ingredients, and I do that to bring nostalgia, cozy, comfort, and relaxation to other people's homes," said Kelly.

Kelly bought a candle-making kit with the gift card, and the rest is history. "I enjoyed it and liked how the scents made me feel. Some of the scents made me feel calm," said Kelly. The candle scents bring Kelly back to major milestones in her life. She says her South Shore Scent Co. candles can comfort her when she is far away from home.

“I grew up here. I went into the military right after high school, so I lived in many different places wherever I lived; it was home, but not home,” said Kelly. It makes sense her top seller is The South Shore candle. “My very first order was from my mom. She’s my biggest supporter, but my random order was from someone in Pennsylvania,” said Kelly.

Kelly and her products are available at local farmers' markets on Long Island.
