"Santa Baby" was first recorded by longtime Connecticut resident Eartha Kitt.
A Christmas classic with it's roots in Connecticut has been on playlists since 1953.
"Santa Baby" was first recorded by longtime Connecticut resident Eartha Kitt. News 12 spoke with her daughter Kitt Shapiro, owner of the Westport clothing store, West.
"It’s an incredibly sexy song done in a classy way," said Shapiro. "I mean she's a woman of color and she's singing this very sexy song about Santa who's, you know, as far as we know, he's probably portrayed as an old white guy. So, yeah, I think this was a big step for the record company, for my mother."
The song was specifically written for Kitt. Shapiro described her mother as a "nitty, gritty person who chose the role of mom above all."
"I was the only family she had. She was an orphan who by her early 20s had captivated audiences on stage and screen," she said.
Shapiro says when she hears the song during the holidays, it reminds her that "she's always with me."
