MacArthur Airport was temporarily locked down Friday morning after a bomb threat.Officials say shortly before 7 a.m., someone called the headquarters for Southwest Airlines in Dallas, Texas and made a threat against a flight going to Chicago. The flight was scheduled to leave MacArthur at 7 a.m, and arrive in Chicago at 8:01 a.m.The Southwest terminal was evacuated due to the threat. Passengers waited for hours as police conducted a search of the terminal and all planes, often releasing very little information to those waiting.
Security officials say they wanted to perform a thorough check of the airport and planes before passengers were allowed to resume with their travel plans.
Officials are investigating the threat.
