After a fire left more than two dozen Lynbrook residents displaced, the community is now rallying around them.
The Lynbrook PBA is holding a fundraiser Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Craft Kitchen and Tap House in Lynbrook to raise money for the victims. PBA Vice President Rob Meier said, “They’re all in need, especially with the holidays around the corner. We really just wanted to figure out a way to give back to the community and make sure that this holiday was special…” He said he knows some of the families and described them as “great people.”
Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach told News 12 that in addition to the PBA fundraiser, others are helping as well, including a local church. “People come together and help each other. It’s a great place to live,” he said.
The Lynbrook School District is collecting gift cards for the families at any of the main offices of its school buildings or at the Atlantic Avenue district offices.
Nassau County Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro told News 12 that the fire was accidental and is an “undetermined electrical fire.” He said it’s believed to have begun above the ceiling in a hair salon. The displaced residents lived in apartments above the hair salon and other adjacent businesses.
