Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul was on Long Island Friday just days before becoming the first female governor of New York.
"The job will not change me, but I plan to change the job," says Hochul.
Hochul met with Long Island labor leaders in Hauppauge and touched on topics ranging from the upcoming storm to
mask mandates in schools.
News 12 asked Hochul if Henri and its aftermath will impact the transition of power and she said, "No it won't. I want to assure everyone the current administration is very adept at dealing with storms. I've been engaged- my team has been engaged but all decision making will come out of the current administration till Tuesday, but I'm getting briefings by the minute."
Hochul went on to say, "The administration has already deployed resources to Long Island to address the impending storm. We're concerned about storm surge."
Hochul says she plans to make a number of announcements when she is sworn in but did not give specifics.
As far as mask mandates for schools, Hochul says she plans to make an announcement soon.
"I expect to be making an announcement on that very shortly on Tuesday," says Hochul. "But people should be ready."
Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently announced his resignation after a state attorney report concluded he engaged in inappropriate behavior with 11 women.
This cleared the way for Hochul to become governor.
