South Shore flooding appeared minimal Wednesday afternoon, compared to previous nor'easters this month.

Venetian Boulevard in Lindenhurst looked mostly dry Wednesday. Floodwaters there reached roughly knee-high in previous storms.

With the next high tide not until after 1 a.m., some residents said they feared they were not yet in the clear.

"We're afraid that it's gonna be like the last three storms, where the water was going past the houses," said Dennis Lesser. "At one point, the water had to be about 2 feet deep in front of our property."

Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said workers had cleared storm drains in an effort to mitigate some of the tidal effects. Residents of low-lying areas were urged to move their cars to higher ground just in case.

In the Town of Babylon, Public Works Commissioner Tom Stay said he expected plows to continually patrol the roads overnight.

"We're even anticipating plowing tomorrow morning," he said. "Late morning, even afternoon."
