Low-lying communities across Long Island brace for blizzard, flooding
Low-lying communities are braced for possible flooding as snow falls on Long Island
The Venetian Shores section of Lindenhurst has had a long history of flooding during heavy rains. Many of the homes in the area are still under construction after suffering damage from Superstorm Sandy.
A number of residents had to raise their homes 10-15 feet.
Officials expect snow totals to be 5-10 inches in western Long Island, with 6-12 inches east of Route 111.
