A lost World War II medal found its way back to the family of its owner all thanks to a post on Facebook.
Dina Underwood found some pictures and the medal in a piece of furniture she bought at the Salvation Army in Patchogue.
"Immediately, we thought that we had to try and find the family," she told News 12 Long Island
Frank Gomula said he couldn't believe what he was looking at when he saw the picture of his maternal grandfather, Joseph Brogden, with a World War II medal shared on Facebook.
"I wrote 'Holy moly, that's my grandfather,'" said Gomula.
Gomula's grandfather had served in the Navy and received the Victory Medal at the end of the war. The medal and the pictures were mistakenly left in furniture donated by Gomula's aunt, who lives in East Setauket.
"I am looking forward to putting up the update that we connected, and he has his grandfather's medal," said Underwood.
Gomula said his grandmother was a Rosie the Riveter and the Levittown House he now lives in is the home his grandfather bought after World War II.
