New York workers making minimum wage will soon see an increase in their paychecks.

The current minimum wage on Long Island is $11 an hour. That will go up to $12 on Dec. 31. Under Gov. Andrew Cuomo's plan, the minimum wage will go up a dollar every year until 2021, when it reaches $15 an hour.

Labor employment lawyer Glenn Franklin says raising the minimum wage comes at a cost.

"It cuts into certain profits. It means they have to raise prices,” says Franklin.

The Department of Labor has a hotline set up for workers to call if their employers don't comply with the increase. That number is 1-888-4NYSDOL.
