Some Long Islanders spent their Thanksgiving making sure others had a hot meal.
Thanksgiving dinner was served around noon Thursday for those in need at the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead.
The INN expected to feed at least 200-300 people.
The dining room at the INN was set up with place settings and bags of candy made by local school children and Girl Scout Troop 853. Troop 853 members said they try to help those in need every year during the holidays.
Meal volunteer Hatty Harold from Wantagh has spent many Thanksgivings serving at the INN and said it is important to help.
“It’s very gratifying to come and make food and feed people who really need it the most,” said Harold. “I was introduced to the INN through the Women’s Bar Association in Nassau County, and I just really enjoyed it when I started coming. And I continue to come.”
The INN accepts donations all year long. Click here for information on how to donate to the Mary Brennan INN.
