While violence rips apart southern Lebanon and Hezbollah rockets hit targets in northern Israel, Long Islanders visiting and living in Jerusalem are going about their daily activities.
Crowds in the city get larger as evacuees from the north find safety in the Holy City, and a European tourist was killed overnight Friday in what police call a terror attack by an Arab. But for the most part, Josh Levy of Roslyn says, people are trying to live their lives as normal and not let terrorists boss them around. Levy and friend Chris Federici of Bay Shore are college students selected to take part in a counter-terrorism program. Federici says he is nervous but thinks security is in good hands.
Hanna Cohen is a West Hempstead student with an internship at a Jerusalem hospital. She says the war will not interfere with her work, and adds she wouldn?t leave even if her mother tried to convince her to. Levy, Federici and Cohen all say they are hoping for a quick end to the violence.
