With
temps that could feel like they're at or above 100 degrees,
families spanned the Island on Tuesday to find spots to cool off.
Highs were
well into the 90s on Tuesday, with humidity making it feel even hotter.
News 12 meteorologists say the high heat is expected for at least one more day
before things cool off a bit.
One
of the popular family spots is at Wantagh Park, where there's an
interactive pool, Olympic-sized pool, diving pool, training pool and kiddie
pool to offer.
Domenica Ramirez and her family say they’ve been coming to the
park for roughly three decades.
Her son, daughter-in-law and
grandchildren played in the pool today.
"We'll come a few times out of the week especially in a
heat wave like this so we'll come. And they stay open late, they extend the
hours so it's really cool,” says Ramirez.
Another
family-favorite is Jones Beach.
News 12’s Christina Regnault spoke with 12-year-old Joey Rainone of Franklin
Square who says it’s the perfect spot to surf the waves.
“Some
of the waves are big, some are small. I haven’t really been able to catch any,
but I may soon,” says Joey. “It’s pretty good out here, the water is kind of
cold, but you can get use
to it.”
Lifeguards at Jones Beach
are encouraging the public to be cautious, wear sunscreen and stay
hydrated. “People got to be careful when it gets this hot at the beach, and you feel
the breeze...you don't realize
it's still really hot and you got to stay hydrated,” says Jones Beach lifeguard Danny Dalrymple.
