One day after the first snowstorm of the season swept through the region, Long Island residents took out their shovels Saturday and cleaned up the winter mess.
?It?s mostly ice, so it?s kind of hard and heavy,? said Justin Chan, of Oceanside.
Business owners and homeowners out in full force scraped sidewalks and poured salt to melt the snow away. Some people, like Dan Casella, of Oceanside, invested in snow blowers to make the task easier.
The main roads were cleared by highway workers over night, making for good driving conditions, but some side streets were still coated with snow and ice.
The storm did not slow down the firefighters from the Oceanside Fire Department, who dropped off food and toys to help the needy.
