Multiple branches of the Long Island Rail Road are already experiencing delays and cancellations today due to switch and equipment issues.
This comes after dozens of trains were disrupted or rerouted from the morning commute through the night yesterday, related to Sunday's storm and the ongoing freezing temperatures.
Yesterday, the Long Island Rail Road returned to its normal schedule but ultimately was never able to keep up with the volume of issues, including signal problems, switch issues and equipment trouble. The disruptions caused people to be late and forced some to make their way to different stations to catch trains that were running.
Throughout the day, crews were seen working to make repairs and even manually heating switches to keep them from freezing.
MTA President Rob Free told News 12 on Tuesday that officials do everything in their power to not cancel even one train, but sometimes adjustments have to be made to keep the overall system operating safely.
