Long Island parents are hoping new age restrictions on the Web site Myspace.com will help stop sexual predators from gaining access to their children.
The new restrictions, which take effect next week, will not allow users over the age of 18 to join the ?friends list? of a minor. Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice says the new regulations will not stop pedophiles, because there is no way to verify the age of a user. Therefore, a person can simply claim to be 16 years old and have full access to profiles of underage teens.
MySpace.com has recently been linked to stories of murder, missing kids and sexual abuse. A Sayville man, and Myspace user, was recently arrested and accused of trying to meet underage girls he chatted with online for sex in a cemetery.
