Four Long Island residents will try to bring home the gold at the Olympics, including a Northport native.
Allie Long will try to help the U.S. soccer team win their fourth straight gold medal.
The 28-year-old midfielder found out she was Rio-bound early last month.
She thought she was a long shot for the Olympics after being left off the national team for two years, but she followed in the footsteps of her idol Mia Hamm and proved to the coaches that she belonged.
"I've dreamed of this moment since I was a little girl," she said. "I feel like that every time I'm in a U.S. jersey I feel like I'm representing the country, but not only that. Everyone that has helped me get to that point. "
