Nassau police launched an effort Wednesday to keep kids off drugs by getting them on the mat.
The program, Wrestling to Take Down Drugs, was kicked off among local leaders, wrestling Hall of Famers and former UFC champ Chris Weidman.
"This event, to take down opioid addiction is something that really hits home as a born-and-raised Long Island kid," says Weidman. "I've seen it really becoming a big problem. So I'm hoping that if we have the opportunity to save one kid's life and make an impact on any kid out there, it's all worth it."
Officials also announced a special Wrestling Takes Down Drugs Day, which will be held Feb. 16 at Nassau Community College's Field House Gym.
