The tradition of Groundhog?s Day is not just reserved for Pennsylvania, as groundhogs in both Nassau and Suffolk rendered different predictions.
Nationally known "Punxsutawney Phil" showed up for the large crowds and saw his shadow Saturday, predicting six more weeks of winter.
However, it was a completely different story for "Malverne Mel," Nassau County's weather prognosticator. Mel did not see his shadow, meaning an early spring on Long Island.
Not to be outdone, ?Holtsville Hal? gave his prediction at Brookhaven?s ecology center. Suffolk County?s groundhog was in sync with "Punxsutawney Phil" and gave a prediction of six more weeks of winter.
