The City of Long Beach could get up to $5 million in state grants and loans if the state agrees to review its finances.
The Long Beach City Council voted Tuesday night to ask for a state financial review board to look into the its budget troubles.
If the state agrees to review the city's finances, Long Beach would get state aid in exchange for state-mandated reforms.
It would also mean a state watchdog would oversee its financial decisions.
Long Beach currently faces a $4 million budget hole.
The state board meets later this month to consider applications.
It could take up to four months to approve the financial aid.
