The Long Beach City Council approved a fee hike for beach passes in a 4-1 vote at a special meeting Monday night.
Non-residents will face the biggest increase.
The daily fee for non-residents will rise from $12 to $15. Day passes for residents will remain at $12.
Adult season passes for non-residents will increase from $80 to $100, and Long Beach residents will have to pay $50, up from $40.
"People will opt to go to Jones Beach, where it costs $10 for a carload of people," says Councilwoman Eileen Goggin, who cast the lone vote against the measure. "And where parking is included."
The council is looking to help make up the loss of $900,000 to operate the beach.
The price changes take effect immediately. Beachgoers can pick up the new passes beginning 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Long Beach Rec Center.
