The final piece of the newly rebuilt Long Beach Boardwalk was put into place today.
The historic boardwalk was destroyed when Superstorm Sandy hit almost a year ago. Reconstruction of the boardwalk cost $44.2 million.
The 2.2-mile boardwalk was rebuilt using durable Brazilian hardwood and a retaining wall beneath it.
The city began reopening smaller sections of the boardwalk in July. A special ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this afternoon.
Long Beach officials are now trying to determine how much of the project will be paid for by FEMA.
