Long Beach authorities deter massive beach party planned for holiday weekend

Long Beach authorities say they are working to prevent a massive party that seems to be planned for this holiday weekend.
Last weekend, thousands of people partied on the sand in Long Beach. Police say there were about 2,500 people at the height of the party.
As things winded down, investigators say one man was shot at the event.
"These are illegal, unauthorized parties,” says Long Beach Police Commissioner Ron Walsh. “They just show up in mass. They advertise these things on private mediums, like Snapchat, so it's very difficult to get the information from them."
Walsh says a flyer has been handed out announcing another party scheduled for Saturday.
"We're not condoning them coming down to this city for this party, we are going to be making it much less comfortable for them to be here this weekend,” Walsh says. "If their cars are illegally parked, they can expect to get summons and the cars are going to be impounded."
Brian Braddish is the owner of Riptides, the bar and restaurant on the boardwalk and the location named on the flyer for all of these parties. He says he has no ties to these parties and is sick of it.
"We're hoping the police department can put a stop to it,” he says.
Braddish proposes that Ocean Beach be closed at 9 p.m. “Put the gates up, just like Jones Beach State Park does. It alleviates a lot of the problems that we're having here,” he says.
Walsh has a message to potential partygoers: "We are considering this party canceled."
