A Locust Valley student-athlete who collapsed on Monday night during a varsity basketball tryout is stable and recovering, according to Dr. Kristen Turnow, superintendent of schools.
“Our coaches and staff swiftly initiated CPR and used the closest AED. The student is stable and recovering now, thanks to the incredible efforts of the coaches, security team and local emergency response teams,” Turnow said in a letter to parents. “…All our coaches are AED and CPR certified, and we experienced firsthand last night just how important this training is.”
Turnout said students receive AED and CPR training during physical education classes.
It wasn’t immediately clear why the student, who was not identified, collapsed.
