Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) officials say service is restored on both tracks between Hicksville and Mineola after two work equipment trains made contact in New Cassel today.

The incident happened on the main line just after 11 a.m.

Assistant Chief Fire Marshal John Priest says five people were hurt. The two train operators were taken to the hospital.

The MTA says the trains never went off the rails and were eventually moved to a side track.

Officials say there was also a small chemical spill that leaked hydraulic fluid and antifreeze.
