Attention Long Island Rail Road commuters -- new schedules are set to go into effect Monday.
The new timetables restore weekday service levels to what they were at from Jan. 25 through March 5. But the timetable is not at pre-pandemic levels.
The move comes after a major slash to service was met with harsh criticism from commuters who were forced to ride on crowded trains.
"You all started getting the photos sent to News 12 of the crowded trains - which you reported on and that put a little pressure on it," says Gerard Bringmann, of the LIRR Commuter Council. "That kind of started a snowball rolling downhill. Once that started, then the politicians started taking note. All of a sudden you have state senators writing letters."
Officials say off-peak fares will remain in effect on all trains, even during traditional peak hours.
It took about three weeks from the announcement until the changes went into action. This is because officials say the MTA scheduled construction around the cuts.
