The Long Island Rail Road's plan to double up a main stretch of track could impact drivers.
A newly published environmental study takes a look at the possible impact of adding another set of rails to automobile traffic.
As News 12 has reported, the LIRR wants to add another track along a mile stretch on the Ronkonkoma Line.
That means more trains will travel on the tracks, and 20 crossing gates will be down more often at several Suffolk intersections.
The LIRR says the impact will be minimal, and predicts that drivers will sit in traffic for an extra 15 seconds during the morning commute.
