The Long Island Rail Road is operating on or close to schedule following delays and cancellations caused by a track condition in Penn Station, according to the LIRR.
The LIRR said Amtrak crews were on the scene to fix a problem with a switch, which caused delays eastbound out of Penn Station and several trains to be canceled.
Amtrak, which owns Penn Station, says it is planning an infrastructure project this summer that will take some tracks out of service during much of July and August.
The LIRR was expected to release its plan at the beginning of the month. A spokesman said Tuesday the railroad is still finalizing the plan and its top priority is to ensure a minimal impact to railroad riders during Amtrak's construction work this summer.
