A Lindenhurst man who was arrested after more than 40 weapons were seized from his home during a probation check pleaded not guilty to more than 50 felony weapon charges.
The charges 60-year-old Albert Tusa faces include 43 counts of criminal possession of a weapon with a prior conviction.
According to detectives, Tusa had brass knuckles and an expandable baton. Upon further investigation, officers say they also found eight handguns, 17 long guns, 16 switchblades, and two high-capacity magazines.
The judge said Tusa was on probation for violating an order of protection last year which also prohibited him from having any guns in his possession.
"The contempt conviction was with an old girlfriend who he was in civil court with, family court," said Anthony Scheller, Tusa's lawyer.
In court, the judge said Tusa pleaded guilty last year to violating the order of protection.
"It was really just contacting that person via email, and that's what arose to the contempt charges," Scheller said.
Tusa's lawyer says a number of the guns and knives belonged to Tusa's father who died and had his house sold, and the collection of weapons went to Tusa.
"Find out whether or not some of that stuff was old, some of the rifles may be old and whether they're even operable," Scheller added.
The judge ordered Tusa to be held on $150,000 cash bail.
