Long Islanders with family members living in Florida are preparing for a possible direct hit from Hurricane Dorian this weekend.
According to the National Weather Center, Hurricane Dorian is now a category 3 storm.
Long Island residents with loved ones in Florida say they are worried for their relatives.
"Everyone seems to be panicking because they don't know where to go if they want to evacuate," says Barry Bordino, from Old Bethpage. "Everything is up in the air right now, but they are prepared."
Volunteers with the Red Cross in Mineola are gearing up to go to Florida. They say they are loading up emergency response vehicles with supplies.
Sal Montoro from the American Red Cross is going to Orlando on Saturday.

"My job would be to go down there and start that planning, start to figure out where the shelters are going to go, how much personnel we're going to need, how much food we're going to need," says Montoro.
The hurricane is expected to turn into a category 4 storm before making landfall.
