Long Islanders bundled up Friday as the temperatures dipped dangerously low.
Many residents choose to stay indoors and not face the cold. Those that had to leave home added extra layers to stay warm. One resident says despite the bitter cold, he prefers it to a heat wave.
The cold temperatures can also cause car problems. Drivers are urged to warm up their vehicles and keep anti-freeze and a jumper box for emergencies. Steve Rozansky, of Family Auto Service, adds that if a lock is frozen, residents can heat up their keys with a cigarette lighter.
