Many Long Islanders say due to high gas prices, they plan to stay close to home or take public transportation this Memorial Day weekend.
Lynn Ramsay, from Manhattan, says she took the LIRR to Amagansett so she could sit back and enjoy the view and not have to worry about paying for gas. Christine Kilanowski, of Patchogue, says her annual camping trip to Wildwood State Park is a good example of the kind of local excursion more Long Islanders should take advantage of.
Bellport Mayor Frank Trotta says his town is an ideal location for families who don?t want to go too far, but want a change of scenery. He urges residents to explore some of Long Island?s local and forgotten treasures.
