Procrastinating Long Islanders raced to the post office Wednesday to file their taxes before the deadline.
?Today is great,? Kevin Schwartz, of Wantagh, told News 12 while sending out his taxes in Hicksville. ?Preparing ?em sucks, but getting ?em out and being done is the best.?
Hicksville Postmaster Frank LoCricchio says more and more people are filing their taxes online, but he still expected the usual tax day onslaught at the post office. He says the staff tries to help everyone get their taxes in and get on their way.
The IRS says people should file on time even if they don't have money to pay their tax bill. That way they can work out a payment plan and avoid paying stiff penalties.
