LIE closes due to storm; set to reopen at 5 a.m.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has declared a statewide state of emergency and announced the overnight closure of the Long Island Expressway.

Long Island Expressway closed at midnight within the borders of Nassau and Suffolk counties. The plan is to have the LIE reopen at 5 a.m., conditions allowing.

Cuomo also announced that the Long Island Rail Road will operate on a weekend schedule on Friday.

The governor activated the Emergency Operations Center Thursday morning to monitor the storm.
