Liberty Science Center in Jersey City is welcoming five baby turtles.

The turtles were rescued from Long Beach Island. The effort was made possible through Project Terrapin – a research and education initiative dedicated to protecting New Jersey’s diamondback terrapin population.

"This program is especially meaningful for us as it builds on the salt marsh habitat that we have in our Hudson home and the two terrapins we currently have that you can see on exhibit now,” says Melissa Chin, director of animal husbandry.

Liberty Science Center will care for the baby turtles until they can be released in the spring.
