Two Centerport sisters' rendition of "Let It Go" from Disney's popular movie "Frozen" has won them a national honor.
Katherine and Kelly Montenero have been acting and singing in their community for a decade. The Harborfields High School students were just named winners of the nationwide "Disney's Frozen: Sing Your Heart Out" contest.
The girls told News 12 that they have spent hours upon hours in their home, reworking and harmonizing different popular songs just for fun. They say they started working on "Frozen" back in April, before they even knew about the contest.
A few months later, Kelly saw the contest online, but realized the deadline to enter was the very next night. The teens came home from school and recorded their rendition in the kitchen.
They say they received an email in October saying they were one of the top 10 finalists.
The Monteneros were announced as the winners in a commercial broadcast during Sunday night's American Music Awards. They were flown to Los Angeles for a week as part of their prize.
Both say they hope to one day make careers in the music industry.
