Long Island residents are being urged to reduce their water use.
The Long Island Water Conference says water use has shot up 400% because of the hot, dry weather. They say most of the surge is because of sprinkler systems.
Residents are now being asked to avoid peak usage hours by watering lawns between 5 p.m. and 12 a.m., as well as being conscious of water usage inside your home.
Officials say there is not a water shortage, but a limited number of supply wells to draw the liquid from the ground.
