Police departments on Long Island are on high alert following the recent bombings in New York City and New Jersey.
Nassau police say they have deployed their Bureau of Special Operations units.
"We have multiple assets deployed throughout the county, multiple different teams at different spots throughout the day," says Sgt. Joe Grella. "It's going to be constant and irregular. There's no pattern to where we're going to go."
Officials in both Nassau and Suffolk counties say residents can expect to see officers dressed in all black and carrying long assault rifles at train stations, malls, popular gathering spots and areas of critical infrastructure.
"We also have additional bomb techs on duty as well as explosive detection canines," says Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini. "So essentially, we're monitoring the situation very closely."
Nassau and Suffolk police say they are in constant contact with state and federal law enforcement so they stay updated on any specific threats.
