A pilot from East Rockaway is in critical condition after a plane crash in Connecticut.
Cellphone video captured Benjamin Temple's small plane spiral out of the sky and crash into a house Saturday in Haddam, Connecticut. The 46-year-old was the only person occupying the aircraft and was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.
Jessica Hewter, who lives across the street from the Temple family, says the husband and father of two is in an induced coma and suffered damage to his lungs, but his condition is improving.
Photos on Temple's Facebook page show him a repairing a single-engine plane, but it is unknown whether it's the plane that crashed. According to Connecticut State Police, the plane Temple was flying Saturday may have had mechanical issues and, as he tried to circle back, he wound up smashing into a small home in the woods. The homeowner was inside at the time but not injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash.
