Long Island parents were just some of those protesting in Albany Tuesday against a state bill that would require more vaccinations for their children.
The parents stood outside the capital united by the principle it should be the parents? decision which vaccines, if any, should be given to their children. The bill on the table would shift the child vaccine schedule from the responsibility of the state to the federal government.
Parents say they?ve had enough of the government telling them which shots to give their children. Their opposition was also fueled by the growing anti-vaccine movement. Many are skeptical over whether the vaccines are effective and wonder if they are connected to autism.
The legislation is sponsored by the rules committee. There was no comment from Speaker Sheldon Silver's office because of a religious holiday.
