Parents and child advocates throughout Long Island and the state are praising lawmakers for further strengthening Megan?s Law.
Governor Pataki (R-NY) signed a bill Friday to make parents even more aware of convicted sex offenders who may be living in their neighborhoods. Effective immediately, the mug shots and addresses of all level 2 sex offenders will be available on the state?s sex offender Web site. They join the high-risk level 3 sex offenders whose profiles are already available.
Laura Ahearn, of parents for Megan?s Law, says the new law is significant in that it puts New York on par with other states. However, she says there is still much work to be done.
