Long Island officials are introducing new legislation to make all state beaches accessible for everyone, including the elderly and people with disabilities.
Assemblywoman Melissa Miller and Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan say there are a high number of state beaches that are not accessible to people with physical and developmental disabilities, as well as the elderly.
In Long Beach, people with disabilities say mats used to make the beach wheelchair accessible aren't long enough, and leave beach-goers struggling in the sand.
The city of Long Beach says its beaches are fully ADA compliant.
