A Long Island nursery is leading the effort to honor the legacy of a North Fork man who touched so many with his generosity and kindness.
The Planting Hope project was created in the memory of Kathy Pufahl, who was the founder of the East End nursery Beds and Borders.
Every year, it creates and sells a one-of-a-kind plant with 100% of the proceeds going to an organization that aligns with their values.
This year, it will donate the proceeds from the sale of Salvia East of Adi to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in memory of Richard “Rich” Stephenson.
It was named after Stephenson's grandchildren Easton and Adeline.
Stephenson was a cherished member of the North Fork community, who died suddenly in September 2024.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation embodies his values of community care, playfulness and adventure.
The foundation also gave support to his nephew.
