The Vanderbilt's old Motor Parkway will be preserved as a new paved trail for hikers and bikes.
William K. Vanderbilt built Long Island's Motor Parkway in 1908 -- the first motor parkway of its kind in the nation.
According to Newsday, Nassau will receive nearly $2 million in federal funds for a paved trail.
Work will begin next year to pave the 1.4-mile trail in East Meadow.
