LI mom fights to keep roadside memorial
A Hempstead woman is fighting to maintain a memorial at the site where the father of her children was gunned down last month.
Ukepavi Hoskins was shot to death at Nichols Court and Washington Street on Aug. 15. Hoskin?s girlfriend Shaneekwa Guest and their two children placed candles and photos there soon after. Guest says village workers keep throwing the items out though.
A spokesman says the village doesn't have a policy on roadside memorials and tries to be sensitive to victims? families. The village also says if a makeshift memorial is placed on private property, it would be removed only at the request of the property owner.
