The Maritime Museum in West Sayville held its 17th annual festival Saturday, bringing to life the sounds and sights of Long Island?s nautical past.
For Tom Brienza, of Copiague, and his granddaughter, Adrianna, attending the festival has become a family tradition.
?We come out here every year for the seafood festival,? Brienza says. ?It's a nice affair, it's a nice way to get out with the family and enjoy yourself.?
The festival has something for everyone, from arts and crafts to pirate performances and food. The money raised at the event will help the Long Island Maritime Museum stay open.
?It is the largest fundraising event that we run,? says Stan Feldman, of the Maritime Museum. "It accounts for about 25 percent of our operating income.?
Feldman says the main goal of the museum is to preserve the maritime history of Long Island through restoration of boats and education.
The festival will run through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
